With a legacy of groundbreaking discoveries and the inspiration behind the Jane Goodall Institute for environmental change, Dr. Jane Goodall serves as a leader in research and global community conservation. These interactive kiosks explore Dr. Goodall’s legacy in three parts: her revolutionary observations of chimpanzees in the ‘60s, the active research to offset chimp habitat degradation in Gombe and surrounding areas in Africa, and the environmental pledges that museum goers can make for a hopeful future.

Holographic Field NotebookWhile observing chimpanzees in the ‘60s in Tanzania, Africa, Dr. Goodall’s field notebook was a necessary tool to document three key findings about chimps: they eat meat, they build nests as beds each night, and they engage in warfare. Within the exhibit, Goodall’s notebook sets the stage in which the three holographic vignettes could play out.

Through a carefully orchestrated holographic animation, the sketched images and text lift off the page and come to life as animated shorts, recounting each key finding as a 30 second vignette.

Each vignette was storyboarded based on collaborating with the Nat Geo team on the high-level story beats, further refined based on a tighter script, then illustrated and animated to fit the cadence and mood of each story.

Chimp Habitat Degradation Interactive Touchscreen
Using satellite imagery and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), The Jane Goodall Institute studies the vanishing habitats of chimpanzees in Africa. To set the stage for the satellite based map data, we created a 3D rotating globe to introduce the Chimp Habitat Degradation story displayed through an interactive kiosk.

NeoPangea worked directly with JGI’s Chief Scientist to capture hi-resolution map data, break down the information into easily digestible parts, and restyle it based on the exhibit’s style guide.

Since recognizing deforestation in the ‘70s, JGI has made strides with Tanzanian communities in taking ownership to manage their local environments.

Tree of Hope Projection &#38;amp; Interactive TouchscreensBefore visitors exit the museum, Dr. Jane Goodall encourages each person to pledge to make a positive change in their daily routine, as individual actions add up to make a significant impact. Each pledge takes the form of a leaf, which joins other leaves on the Tree of Hope representing the collective action for change.

I worked closely with the Nat Geo and NeoPangea teams to create the tree’s look and feel, while designing a wooden laser cut interface for each person to make their pledge on the adjoining kiosks.

Each visitor can add their name to the Tree of Hope, as one small pledge can make a greater impact on the world. Once they submit their pledge, their leaf flies from the kiosk to tree on the wall in front of them.

They don’t call the city of Reading, Pennsylvania the “Pretzel Capital of the World” for nothing. Over 100 years ago, Unique Pretzel Bakery laid the groundwork for their now 6th generation family company by making Reading its home, which was just beginning of their storied history and brand evolution.

In order to mark this monumental occasion and to better serve them for the next 100 years, I assisted in leading the design team to visually rebrand Unique Pretzel Bakery to Unique Snacks, using typography indicative of their off-kilter company culture paired with their German heritage.

I then worked closely with Unique Snacks to create a 100 Year Seal and distinct design elements that would add subtle differences to their packaging in honor of their centennial, plus give a nod to their fine pretzel craftsmanship.

A complete packaging rebrand followed for their Splits, Shells, and Sourdough pretzels in three different product sizes. From the flavors within Original Splits to the Original Pretzel Shells to the Sourdough Craft Beer Pretzel Rings, each line has its own personality and distinct TOV. Unique (heh) logotypes, custom typographic glyphs, and new product photography match their commitment to craftsmanship, originality, and innovation.

Fun fact! I’ll always remember these as the “pandemic bags”, as the designs were created in my new “home office”. The pretzels on the packaging as well as the photos that you’re seeing right now were art directed and photographed in my “home studio”. It’s not often I have the honor of working with brands celebrating their centennial. May as well do it during a pandemic.

The museum installation was not only featured in the “Please touch!” exhibit at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. but it was also featured through Smithsonian Channel’s companion microsite, and displayed at New York’s Comic Con, where more than 100,000 attendees could feast their eyes and fingers on it.

As the show captured 4K footage of the high points of the lush rainy season, and the low conflict-ridden points of the dry, our episodic map allowed the viewer to explore video recaps, freeze-frame galleries, and the representative clan shields on their own with each episode.

Both sides of a conflict could be seen as you explore the territories of the land, like fertile Great Marsh, the advantageous Leopard’s Rock, or the notorious Great North, as its clan leaders mark their land with their shield.

Before the map was fully designed, I created style frames that depicted the distinct aesthetics of the terrain, clan shields, and animal “chess marker” positioning.

Episodic maps created in WebGL, and brought to life through 3D modeling, were art directed by me as I collaborated with a technologist on the physics and navigational range.

In a grecian themed pet shop, the hamster Zeus the Mighty and the cat Athena fancy themselves as greek gods among other pet shop creatures. With this companion game to the book by the same name, Zeus the Mighty is on a mission to reach the top of Olympus.

Left, right and up arrows are your friends as you try to beat the platform descent by leaping upwards from platform to platform amid ancient ruins. Collect coins as you jump but watch out for those ancient greek artifacts laying around, lest you bump into one and loose your collected coins.

Get to the next level, and you encounter your dear friend Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom. Here, she will pose a question about mythology. Answer correctly and you gain points and advance to the next level. Answer incorrectly and you’re doomed to stay at your current level until Athena allows you to pass.

Interactive prototypes were key as we tested the content strategy, point system, platform difficulty, and game mechanics at each stage of the project. I prototyped the user flow through wireframes, created the game design, and adapted the design as user testing feedback was collected.

Edutainment is key as the National Geographic Society strives to educate exhibit visitors about maintaining diverse fish populations. This touchscreen installation quiz explored what fish you should keep or release in an entertaining touchscreen interactive.

Using “monster fish” photo assets from the Nat Geo team, I designed a world in which the interactive touchscreen quiz would occur. Once a player started the game, they could drag their fishing boat along the murky waters to catch a fish. &#38;nbsp;

At the end of the game, points were tallied and feedback provided in the hopes of spreading awareness about maintain diverse fish populations.

Throughout this process, I prototyped the user flow through wireframes, created the unique touchscreen interactive design, and adapted the design as user testing feedback was collected. This exhibit quiz interactive was a delight to create as I collaborated with the National Geographic Society and NeoPangea teams on the strategy, design, animation, and interactive mechanics.

Guided by the narrative of a Nat Geo Kids companion book series, this cryptology game allows kids of all ages to consider what messages may be hidden behind the veil of secrecy. &#38;nbsp;Guided at first by two matching letters, NeoPangea created an on-boarding experience to assist the players as they discovered the tools to decrypt the code.

Using two alphabetical disks, the player can rotate, lock, and test their assumed match as they key in the mystery word or phrase. Levels increased in difficulty as the player transitioned from Novice to Master Code Breaker.&#38;nbsp;Though a lightweight content backend containing hundreds of words and phrases, the player could play again and again to crack the code.

Any any time, the broad audience of the media, the general public, and the legal community need daily access to the varied strains of information offered by the historical and stately institution of the Pennsylvania Courts.

Given the challenge of over 200 pages of content and a deep navigation hierarchy to take into consideration, it was vital to create a flexible design system that would structure the content in a manner that was quick and easy to find.

What resulted was a clean and elegant solution with interactive visuals like the Courts of the Judiciary pyramid and various searchable county maps. Forms, search functions, pdfs, and quick links are integrated seamlessly.

This accordion folded, double-sided wedding invitation features duo-tone printed photography from many of our travels through Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania. Two Pantone colors were carefully selected to enhance the photography in a rustic, understated approach on the off-white Mohawk paper stock.

This old-world correspondence theme carried through to the handcrafted table numbers, place cards, and even vintage artifacts like a repurposed mailbox.

Homemade apple butter from hand-picked apples were provided as favors, encouraging guests to Spread the Love.

		<description>Well, hello there.I am the Senior Director of Design at NeoPangea, a digital creative boutique nestled in the historic railroad town of Reading, PA. At NeoPangea, I lead teams in creating experiential design, interactive media, and AR &#38;amp; VR for museums, activations, or the device that you're cradling right now.

For nearly 20 years, I've honed my approaches in design, storytelling, and digital experiences by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of strategists, technologists, and creatives. I strive to immerse visitors in sublime experiences, all while championing for a human-centered approach. 

I consider myself an imaginative yet realistic brainstormer, a big picture thinker with an eye for detail, and an outdoor adventurer who gains new perspectives about the world.

Through the collaborative efforts of the teams I've worked with, and the stories I've had the opportunity to translate through design, I've garnered awards such as the American Alliance of Museums Exhibition Overall Winner, TEA Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement, and have been an Emmy Jury Finalist. 

Some of the teams I've had the privilege of working alongside are National Geographic, Berks History Center, McCormick &#38;amp; Co, The History Channel, Smithsonian Channel, Unique Snacks, and The Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania.

I've served as the Vice President of AIGA Central PA, a mentor, and I've spoken about design methodologies and approaches at conferences and universities.
